Lovecraft’s 1934 working document on the craft of weird fiction opens not with theory but with confession: he writes to escape the prison of the known. In five numbered stages (outline, reorder, draft, revise, transcribe) he lays out the mechanical skeleton beneath the atmosphere, arguing that mood is the supreme ambition of the form and that the miraculous must never be diminished by casual treatment. The essay situates itself in the lineage of Dunsany, Poe, Machen, James, and Blackwood, positioning weird fiction as a permanent minor tradition rather than a genre aberration. Translated into Turkish by Kerem Tuğran, this marks Bonobo Press’s inaugural translation publication.
